Testimonials
The decision to transition out of permanent military service is often clouded by uncertainty and trepidation. While many jobs in the services have natural equivalents in the civilian domain, a transition plan based on ‘current state’ skills risks missed opportunities to find more satisfying career pathways.
GovernIT model of transition is not about a single job rather it centres on developing the attributes that make a person competitive.
Team member starting their journey
Sergio Apostol
Serge spent 8 years in Defence with The Royal Australian Air Force before joining GovernIT. Prior to joining Defence Serge worked in Marketing but was hesitant to return to that career having spent a better part of a decade away.
“I was very anxious before leaving Defence as there was a lot of uncertainty. I didn’t know if the skills I gained while in the RAAF would translate well in the civilian world. After joining GovernIT I learned how to pivot my abilities and attributes to suit the needs of our clients. The GovernIT mentoring program is helping me move towards goals that I thought were improbable to reach when I left Defence. I now feel confident that I am more that competitive in the current and future job market.”
Enfranchised Team member
Kristian Lyrstedt
” At no point did my initial transition plan include any career pathway outside of my (then) ‘current state’ employment profile. I was initially skeptical in my own ability to work within GovernIT as a Business Analyst and Integration Architect; however, my military experience and skillsets would prove to be highly valued by the customer and project team. Leveraging these skills led to a career transition which was ultimately low stress and enjoyable. With two years of employment within GovernIT and Defence projects, I am now confident that my CV is competitive for opportunities within Defence, Government and Civilian project domains. This is the GovernIT continues to grow with ex-military members who have been through diverse transition pathways, and overall the team is committed to helping each other through our individual transition journeys.
Former team member out on their own
Greg Tafe
Greg spent 21 years in Defence Intelligence with the Royal Australian Airforce before joining GovernIT to transition to a becoming a business analyst. Greg has since left GovernIT to tread his own path.
“When I started to think about leaving military service, I started to realise just how little I knew about career possibilities outside my current environment. I switched on to GovernIT and a new world has opened up to me. Through GovernIT, I gained a better understanding of the job market and how to leverage my skills and experience and provided me with relevant training to enhance my business analysis skills. As a result, I felt confident, supported and safe, ready to make the transition out of military service. I’m still learning but am feeling fulfilled and I continue to have GovernIT’s support. GovernIT has my back.”
